The Performance Package of the XPR. When it comes to performance, the XPR stands side by side with the Model 70 -- the most revered bolt action rifle of all time. What is performance? Most discussions of the Winchester XPR revolve around several key issues to hunters. 1) Overall Accuracy, 2) Quality of the trigger systrem, 3) Advanced features and 4) Lasting value. The heart of the XPR is clearly the M.O.A. Trigger System. But a great trigger is not enough. The quality of the barrel and action -- its rifling, crown, action interface and headspacing -- all contribute to overall accuracy. And that is just the beginning of a set of features that include a bolt release button for opening the bolt with the safety on, a fast 60-degree bolt lift that leaves ample clearance for your scope and the superior Inflex Technology recoil pad system. Study the entire package of the XPR then compare it with the competition. You will see Winchester bolt action expertise right down to the smallest details. It's the performance package that earns the XPR the top of its class.

M.O.A. Trigger System
M.O.A. Trigger System

M.O.A. Trigger System. The XPR rifle's M.O.A. Trigger System works on the simple principle of the pivoting lever. The system offers a 2:1 mechanical advantage that results in a superior trigger pull. The M.O.A.’s trigger piece offers a wide, smooth face to better distribute finger pressure for a lighter, more sensitive feel. Because of its geometry and 2:1 mechanical advantage, the trigger piece travels only half the distance of the actuator. Since this distance is cut in half, the perception of creep and overtravel are virtually eliminated. This means that your “feel” for the trigger is greatly enhanced, and thus your effective accuracy, both in the field and off the bench are improved.

The XPR rifle’s adjustable M.O.A. Trigger System is set at the factory to break at a crisp 3-1/2 pounds.

  1. ZERO TAKE-UP. Take-up is the distance the trigger piece travels prior to the sear moving toward release and the shooter feeling resistance. The XPR rifle’s M.O.A. Trigger System uses a spring to eliminate take-up by keeping the trigger piece in constant contact with the actuator. Unlike many competitors’ designs, the unique geometry of the M.O.A. pre-loads the entire trigger system to bias-out normal manufacturing tolerances.
  2. ZERO CREEP. Creep is the perceptible movement of the trigger prior to the release of the firing pin and has a negative influence on accuracy, causing inconsistency and uncertainty during the pull of the trigger. Creep contributes to jerking the trigger, thus adding to movement of the gun during firing. The 2:1 mechanical advantage created by this unique design geometry has virtually eliminated creep in the XPR rifle’s M.O.A. Trigger.
  3. ZERO OVERTRAVEL. Overtravel is the rearward movement of the trigger after the firing pin has been released. It can actually jar the gun away from its intended point of aim and is very distracting to the shooter. The XPR rifle’s adjustable M.O.A. Trigger System is set at the factory to break at a crisp 3-1/2 pounds with no perceptible overtravel. When the sear drops, the trigger stops. Where you aim is where you shoot.

XPR Safety
SAFETY. Every XPR™ rifle has a TWO-POSITION SAFETY that’s convenient to operate with the thumb of your firing hand. The safety’s design fully retracts the trigger away from the actuator. Located just in front of the safety button, the BOLT RELEASE BUTTON allows the action to cycle unfired cartridges while the safety is on. The COCKING INDICATOR on the bolt shroud gives you both a tactile and visual reference of the rifle’s cocked/uncocked condition.
60 Degree XPR Bolt
60-DEGREE BOLT. The robust XPR™ bolt is crafted from chromoly steel barstock and is through-hardened during heat-treatment. The bolt design offers three front locking lugs and a short 60-degree lift for improved scope clearance when cycling. The full-diameter bolt body creates a more rigid component and it features a tough NICKEL TEFLON™ COATING for smoother operation and added corrosion resistance. The one-piece bolt handle is sculpted to give a more positive grip. The bolt can be field stripped in just seconds without special tools for cleaning and lubrication.
CONVENIENT DETACHABLE MAGAZINE
CONVENIENT DETACHABLE MAGAZINE. Just a pull with a forward finger and the magazine is in your hand for loading or unloading. (Remember to empty the chamber too when unloading.) You can carry an extra loaded magazine for convenience.

Recessed Target Crown
RECESSED TARGET CROWN. Every XPR rifle features a recessed target-style crown at the muzzle to protect the rifling from nicks and dings. Each bullet exits the barrel uniformly for the ultimate in downrange accuracy.
Trigger Guard
TRIGGER GUARD. The design offers a generous guard opening for use with gloves. It is constructed of a rugged polymer that can take tough hunting in stride.
DURABLE MAGAZINE DESIGN
DURABLE MAGAZINE DESIGN. The magazine is constructed of a light yet rugged polymer and securely latches at both the front and rear. A single stack design that feeds cartridges in a straight line to the chamber; the magazine’s capacity is three rounds in both magnum and standard calibers.

CHROMOLY STEEL BARREL
CHROMOLY STEEL BARREL. It is precisely button-rifled to create outstanding accuracy with a wide variety of bullet weights and types. Every barrel is thermally stress relieved to ensure straight and true accuracy, even during long strings of fire. The entire barrel is FREE-FLOATING to eliminate any accuracy robbing pressure points.
RIGID RECEIVER FOR ACCURACY
RIGID RECEIVER FOR ACCURACY. It is made fromchromoly steel barstock that’s precision machined and through-hardened during heat-treating to create a strong, stiff and solid receiver capable of delivering pinpoint accuracy. The ejection port is generously sized for more reliable ejection and easier access when loading single cartridges by hand.
INFLEX TECHNOLOGY RECOIL PAD
INFLEX TECHNOLOGY RECOIL PAD. It has specially shaped internal rib structures that redirect the recoil impulse, moving the comb down and away from your face. The ideally contoured contact area on the XPR rifle offers optimal protection against felt recoil, even when shooting today’s magnum loads.

FLAT PROFILE STOCK INTERFACE
FLAT PROFILE STOCK INTERFACE. A critical feature of any high-powered rifle is how the action and barrel are set in the stock. The XPR rifle’s receiver nestles onto flat surfaces and into a cross-mounted recoil lug to resist flex and twist when firing. The XPR will hold its zero under the most adverse conditions.
PRECISION BARREL NUT DESIGN
PRECISION BARREL NUT DESIGN. It keeps the entire barrel/receiver assembly precisely aligned and allows for more accurate headspace control during manufacture. This means there is nothing to shift out of position and degrade accuracy.
N0NE-SLIP GRIPPING SURFACES
N0NE-SLIP GRIPPING SURFACES. These offer an excellent feel on every model, and the grip shape offers a great feel on the trigger. This is a hard feature to describe, but easy to feel if you try it at your Winchester dealer.

FREE FLOATING BARREL. This is an essential feature for maximizing a rifle's accuracy. The entire barrel is floating above the fore-end to eliminate any accuracy robbing pressure points.

ADVANCED POLYMER STOCK.  The XPR rifle’s stock comes in a choice of subdued finishes with textured panels on the fore-end and pistol grip to improve grip in cold, wet weather. The fore-end has rounded edges plus a slightly flattened bottom profile for comfortable shooting from any position. This flattened profile also optimizes stability when firing off sandbags or a rest.

.41" group out of the box. The editors at the Scoutlook website recently conducted an exhaustive and highly objective live fire test of 10 of today’s most popular bolt-action deer rifles. First, they found the XPR from Winchester Repeating Arms delivered the smallest single group of all the groups fired in all of the rifles tested. Second, they compared the XPR against some of the finest, most expensive rifles on the market today, affirming the exceptional value of the XPR.
